Back then I couldn’t tell you who the comic creators were, and I wouldn’t know who the best creators were for years to come, but there was certainly one style that was prevelent among those memorable issues and a few of the covers revealed the name “Jack Kirby.” I had issues of The Demon, Sandman, 1st Issue Special, Forever People…and a character by the name of Mister Miracle. I chose a DC lot hoping for some Superman and Batman issues, and while there weren’t that many to speak of when the comics arrived, I was in awe at what I did get. It doesn’t seem like much looking back, but obtaining 50 comics was pretty much a dream come true for me. And it took a turn for the better when my Mom happily picked me up an Overstreet Price Guide, a few bags, boards, and a box to hold my comics – and a birthday gift of allowing me to send off for 50 DC Comics from an ad in that Price Guide. It started by obtaining a few comics at school, then trading for more with friends during lunch breaks. When I was about 11 or 12-years old, I began a humble comic collection of my own.
